I’m in an unknown situation where I will be using words I’ve never had to use when describing a ‘B’ squad match: “COMPREHENSIVE VICTORY”. I’m in also in the unfamiliar position where I can’t name any stand-out performance from any single player because the squad finally showed what they could do as a team over 69 minutes. I say 69 minutes because of the woeful defence of the short corner which gifted the opposition their equaliser (after Ethan took advantage of a confused Blueharts’ GK to score our opener) which was a real ‘outlier’ compared to the overwhelming majority of the Tangerines’ performance. Our defence and midfield linked up - continually supplying balls to our forwards, who were camped in the opposition's circle for most of the second half, and our efforts were finally rewarded by Felix scoring the winning goal. I’ll reiterate how crucial our combined defenders and midfielders were today by the fact that our keeper said he had very little to do during the match. We still have to work on our use of free-hits and coach Mark, who was lucky to be still on the pitch at the final whistle after arousing the wrath of the ‘stern’ umpire, said “It was nice to win a game and a great reward for the commitment shown by all the players today. The fact that their goalkeeper was [their player] of the match says it all.”
