Sun, sand and sangria. OK, well 2 out of 3 is not bad for March and that is what the 6s found when they arrived in Stevenage.

The oppo must have had some inside dealer thing going on as they knew we we coming with kids and so they had decided to bring all their play pits from their back gardens and dump the sand onto the pitch.

Well yes a much changed 6s, or should I say a very 7s like 6s, took to the beach in a change of strip - white/whitish/inside out tangerine rind.

The first half was mainly a case of Saints dominance and Sandi wiggles. 6/7s took the lead with a well worked move get get Ronan on the end of it. 1-0.

The oppo had one chance just before half-time in which they neatly launched an aerial into our D - bypassing the leaping full stretched with stick Cormac, but they were blocked by a combo of keeper Clive - in his only contribution to the match - and a clearance from Lucas.

Jelly babies eaten, second half started with Saints on the ascendancy. The whites basically encamped in the oppo half with Cormac directing as good as Stephen Spielberg from the middle of the field. The main difference in this half was Saints dominance being converted into goals.

Matt, with a sliding deflection, put us to 2-0 for some breathing space, before the 6s stepped up to the plate with a hat-trick from Ash, and a shimmy from Sandi - all converted with the able assistance of Liam, Lucas, George, Jonty, Sammy, and Ronan encircling and penetrating the oppo D.

In between the goals, the rule adhering umpires green carded Russ for not retreating - little knowing that that is my normal speed.

So 5 goals, our keeper Clive literally on the beach, great play by every white shirt, and a Cormac aerial (it's not a real game without one) summed up the second half. 6-0 full-time.

Congrats to the whole team, everyone played well. Who said you can't win anything with kids.
