match day programme

WELCOME TO ST ALBANS

We would like to extend a warm welcome to players, coaches, officials and spectators for this weekend’s first Ladies National Conference East match at Oaklands College, home of St Albans Hockey Club. We are very excited about the new season ahead of us with new players and a new coach at the helm.

Formed in 1888, St Albans HC has survived through world wars and global recessions, but I do not think today’s generation of players will have experienced anything like the current COVID-19 pandemic. With it gaining momentum and impacting more and more on many aspects of our everyday lives we should feel somewhat privileged to be playing competitive hockey today.

In order that we might continue to be able to enjoy a full season of hockey we would like to ask that everyone adheres to all the current COVID-19 guidelines. We would especially like to remind everyone to remember their social distancing responsibilities, especially when waiting to come onto the pitch or cheering (although not too loudly) for their team from ’The Bleachers’!

We hope you enjoy your time at St Albans Hockey Club, good luck for the 20/21 season, and may the best team win (let’s hope it's St Albans!)

Head of Club Hockey St Albans Hockey Club

Useful information

1. Directions:
You'll find directions to Oaklands College here.

2. Parking
We expect the site to be very busy as a result of more people travelling alone, and a full schedule of matches throughout the day. Please see parking map here. Free parking at the weekend is available anywhere on site (but only in designated bays).

3. COVID
Please see the same diagram for the supporter’s areas on Pitch A and Pitch B. Players, team officials and match officials have their own area in which to warm up / down.
Supporters are reminded that they should always social distance and if supporting as a group, this should be no more than 6 people.

4. Toilets
Are located on the left-hand side when entering the Oaklands sports facilities. Only 2 people to enter the toilets at a time. Please space when queuing for the toilets and maintain hand washing standards.

Unfortunately, the COVID situation is limiting what St Albans Hockey Club can offer at this point in time, however we do hope you have an enjoyable and safe visit to our club.

Many families and friends of those who have fallen in the service of our country are moved to take action in memory of their loved one. It can help with the grieving process to do something positive and many extraordinary people have raised money for the wounded in memory of the fallen Heroes.
Using Hockey as our sport to help, the Hockey for Heroes team work to raise funds for Help for Heroes, with their efforts dating back to 2012 and encompassing a mixture of exceptional physical exertion combined with playing hockey.
The Hockey for Heroes squad comprises a number of Military and Ex-Military personnel who all rally for this same cause.
Help for Heroes has been involved with Sports Recovery since 2008, and in the past year alone have put on 350 events across 50 different sports enabling over 2,100 wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans to take part in adaptive sports.
The work that Help for Heroes is doing in Sports Recovery is only made possible through donations from the amazing people who support Help for Heroes. Without you, the varied and essential sports recovery programme wouldn’t exist so thank you.
Help for Heroes raise money to help our injured and fallen Heroes, and run a series of recovery centres across the country.
