“On behalf of everyone at and associated with St Albans Hockey Club - past and present - I wish to record how deeply saddened we are to hear of the passing of the great James Jarrett. Jim was a giant at our club. Everyone associated with him in whatever era will have their own memories of the extraordinary contribution he made over such a prolonged period. Personally, I can still see him in goal, in cricket pads, one of the last to preserve such uncompromising traditions of the past. Perhaps the greatest accolade is that he was one of those great people whose tireless industry and leadership transcend their club and serve the sport that we all - whatever our affiliation - love and cherish. Jim devoted years of unstinting service to hockey administration in the London League, for the greater good of all. He was a leader, but also a true servant. He was a diamond. How we cherished him. How we will miss him."
