Our existing Head of Men’s Performance Hockey has stepped down due to a change in personal circumstances, so we are keen to find someone who is able to take over the role ready for pre-season training.
Our club has a 125-year history in hockey and a long association in the National League. We play at Oaklands College and field 18 adult teams on a weekend and have an ever-growing youth programme of over 300 players.

Our Men’s 1s currently play in the National Hockey League – Midlands Conference
Our Men’s 2s currently play in the East Hockey League - Division 1 South.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the performance and development of both men’s performance teams. You will need to work closely with the performance support team as well as developing a strong working relationship with our Women’s Performance Head Coach.
You will have the following experience:
- Proven success as a Head Coach within a club environment
- Coaching / Playing at National League level
- Excellent technical & tactical knowledge of hockey and the ability to communicate your knowledge to a group of motivated hockey players
- An ability to utilise video footage for coaching / player development purposes
- Proven success at developing young players
- An ability to communicate effectively with players, coaches, support staff and club management personnel
- The ability to plan and deliver training sessions for a squad of players with differing abilities and stages of their hockey careers
You will be responsible for:
- Working alongside the Head of Club Hockey to develop a series of measurable goals for both teams prior to the start of each season
- Recruitment and management of the Performance Support Team, i.e.:
- 1st XI Assistant Coach
- 1st XI Team Manager
- 2nd XI Coach
- Medical Support
- Ensuring that all players and support team members behave according to the stated club values
- Working alongside the Team Manager to ensure that all players are registered correctly and that all pre-match day and match day duties are completed in accordance with England Hockey expectations
- Planning and delivery of all pre-season and in-season training sessions for all men’s performance squad members
- Taking responsibility for arranging all pre-season fixtures
- The development of all players within the performance squads
- Ensuring that all M1 games are videoed and providing video analysis feedback on technical and tactical areas of each game via the club’s analysis platform.
- Creating individual development plans for all performance squad members
- Communicating match and selection details using the club’s Pitchero platform.
- Communicating effectively with the men’s Club Captain & men’s 3s Captain regarding selection and player development.
- Playing an active role within the Club’s Management Team by attending monthly meetings to report on current men’s performance hockey activity and contributing to club development strategies
- Working alongside the Head of Club Hockey and other board members, taking responsibility for the recruitment of players within the performance squad
- Ensuring that all members of the performance squad support the delivery of the youth hockey programme by attending at least one Sunday training session each season.
Weekly Schedule:
- Men’s performance squad training 7:45pm – 9:45pm – Tuesday & Thursday
- Sunday / Saturday league game day
