The W7s felt like they were in a Year 6 French lesson about the weather when they played Bedford, who took shelter in the club house until 30 seconds before the game began. Il fait froid. We started off playing like a bunch of Year 6s too, not being able to stop, hit, push or see the ball in the first half. Il y a du vent. The less said about that first half the better.
At half time, after a brief chat and some frozen jelly babies (very chewy), we upped our game and - much to the disappointment of our goalie Emily, who was about to turn into Han Solo in carbonite - started playing properly. Il pleut. Goal after goal went in - a pretty one from Lesley, a strong one from Marion, an angry one from Fiona, and a goal from Bella to which she seemed indifferent until we realised her face was frozen and she could no longer smile. Il neige.
Bella was bundled up in 16 coats on the sideline to avoid hypothermia, and we ploughed on with a couple more goals just to make sure, and at this stage any injuries that may have occurred were pain-free as whole bodies went numb. Il gele.. I would say that their goalie was utterly miserable, but I think all in all she had more fun than poor Emily.
So a good win, but everyone was happy when the final whistle was blown. Il y a de l'orage..
