Match Report – Bedford 16th November
The 2s were at home this weekend and looking to secure 3 points against Bedford. The atmosphere was buzzy - even Ed Sheeran popped along with his Pret a Manger sandwich to cheer on his pal, Yem.
St Albans were out early with a warm up that had an improved intensity to weeks before. Starting with only 3 at the back allowed for an aggressive press to start the game and take the pressure to Bedford. The formation paid off with Captain Spidey popping up to poke the ball home following a scrap in front of goal 7 minutes into the game. Late into the second half Donna Coops delivered a beauty of a ball from 30 yards out to Spidey just inside the D who made it 2-0 with a textbook deflection.
Bedford came close to getting back on the board just before half time with a deflection in front of goal. They were denied by Mel Install who finished with a clean sheet in her season debut for the 2s.
First time passes and movement off the ball created great passages of link up play for the home side, which led to a high percentage of possession in Bedford's final quarter. Lexi Hamilton showed great skill and determination in front of goal to convert this possession into the tangerines' 3rd goal of the game.
Increased communication undoubtedly contributed to the solid defensive performance from St Albans, who maintained a strong formation and high work rate when Bedford increased the pressure later into the second half.
The final score was 3-0 to St Albans who are looking to win another 3 points in a home fixture against Cambridge University next week.
