Our objectives & vision

...from our Chief Executive

Phil Martin

Chief Executive - Phil Martin

This is my first year in the role and I took the job as I believe in what St Albans HC is looking to achieve.

It is a great honour to be involved in such a large Club. As a result, my main goal is to work to ensure that we perform as a Club and that we are viewed in that way and not just by the success of our two National League sides.

In my eyes, our strengths are; an already strong Club identity, a talented, loyal and motivated playing and general club membership - young and old, financial security in that we are not dependant on borrowed monies or major benefactors, over 100 years of experience as a Club and a tradition and integrity amongst local, global and hockey communities of producing ‘home grown‘ talent.

I also see a mission called the ‘Tangerine Dream‘, which is

St Albans Hockey Club will work together to create the ‘Tangerine Dream‘ and become a market leader and at all times...

  • Be a Centre of Excellence for Field Hockey by providing first class training and development to all ages at all levels
  • Provide top level facilities and resources for practising and playing hockey for all members
  • Nurture and support those identified as having advanced hockey skills and talent
  • Invite and encourage participation in the Club hockey and social activities to all its members and their families

I therefore see the way forward as follows to achieve this:

  1. We must continue to be respected by our membership and hockey peers and ‘feared and respected‘ by opposing clubs when engaged in the field of play for our ability and skill.
  2. We have to become a magnet to attract the best and talented individuals, both on and off the field and organise those people around a sound management base and a forward thinking Club Strategy.
  3. We must be able to show speed, agility and flexibility in making and implementing solutions.
  4. We have to ensure we are World Class in the management of our assets, including members and sponsorship partners and fulfilling the strategy by name and deliver in the culture of an inventive and advocated St Albans Hockey Club.
We never lose the ability to have fun!

We never lose the ability to have fun!

I am and feel very much a member of the Club and will make myself available to all. However, as some of you already know, if you are asking questions which lead to a solution requirement, I will ask you if you already have ideas to resolve those issues so that we can work towards the ‘Tangerine Dream‘

I look forward to working with all those people who touch St Albans Hockey Club, whether from within or outside our membership.

Phil
